Madagascar Presidency Appoints News Government

(MENAFN) Madagascar's presidency announced a sweeping cabinet overhaul Wednesday evening, installing a new 30-member government charged with reinforcing social stability and rooting out corruption across the island nation.

Of the newly appointed ministers, 17 previously served under former Prime Minister Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo's administration, providing a degree of institutional continuity. The cabinet's composition skews predominantly civilian, though it also includes one military officer, one police officer, and two gendarmes.

At the government's formal presentation ceremony, President Michael Randrianirina delivered a pointed message to his incoming ministers, reminding them that the Malagasy people expect both continuity in delivering on previously launched initiatives and decisive action in confronting emerging challenges.

Randrianirina outlined improving citizens' daily living conditions as the cabinet's overriding priority, with particular emphasis on food security, access to essential services, energy supply, and public safety.
The president made no effort to soften his warning to those tempted by misconduct — any failure or act of corruption, he declared, would trigger "immediate resignation" and legal proceedings.

Randrianirina also stressed the urgent need to press ahead with reconstruction efforts in Madagascar's devastated eastern region, while simultaneously preparing contingency measures to cushion the country from any economic or security fallout stemming from the widening Middle East conflict.

The new cabinet's formation follows the March 15 appointment of Mamitiana Rajaonarison as prime minister — a figure who previously served as director general of Madagascar's Financial Intelligence Unit, the national body responsible for combating money laundering and terrorism financing.
